Seminars, Shoots and Workshops!

‘Golden Crown of Sorrow’ © Julie Corcoran 2022. Inspired by Florence and the Machine’s new single, ‘King’. Model Ivory Flame photographed on location for my Gúna Gorm project, one dress, so many ways to wear it. Gúna Gorm is an ongoing project celebrating women of an uncertain age.

So much news; where to start.

Conceptual Photography Workshop

My AAEX Art and Sign Workshop in conjunction with Chime went brilliantly last week in An Táin Arts Centre, Co. Louth.

Big thanks to the coordinators, our sign language interpreter and everyone who attended and explored the power of objects to generate ideas.

After a quick introduction and look at some of my conceptual work we got down to the fun stuff, choosing objects and exploring their possibilities.

Leah, our Irish Sign Language (ISL) interpreter, was brilliant and very patient with all my questions. Movement is a big part of communicating through sign language; a big challenge when creating still images but we were all delighted with the results. All the participants will be receiving a print of their work.

Shooting on location at Bellurgan House and Cú Chulainn Club room studios.

A day I had been planning for months finally arrived. Since my remote shoot with Ivory Flame in October 2020, I had been eager to shoot with her in person and it was amazing!

Photographing Ivory pirouetting in silk in a period room with vintage wallpaper, bare oak floorboards, bathed in oodles of natural light with Florence and the Machine’s new tracks from Dance Fever echoing around the walls, I was King.

She is my type of model; capable of a wide range of expressions, gestures and movements. All that exciting dynamic stuff that translates well in still images.

Fortunately, I also have some super photographer friends who were willing to split the costs of a full day of shoot in Bellurgan House and Freddie McArdle’s Cú Chulainn club studios nearby.

I’m going to write about this more over the coming weeks - it was such an amazing shoot and Ivory was really wonderful to work with and chat to.

Ivory was on a modelling tour around Ireland so we really appreciate all the organising that goes into making that possible, thank you Ivory!
