Pinhole Photography Day #pinholeday

This Sunday, 27th April is pinhole photography day, a celebration of all things photographically possible with a container and a pin. It’s a day to slow down and embrace a historical process that gave birth to photography as we know it today.

There are lots of resources online on how to make a pinhole camera and calculate exposure times etc I used this website to calculate my exposure time based on the measurements of my container.

I’ll be making photographs on the day with Gráinne Murphy and the print studio gang. Big thanks to Louth County Arts Office for supporting my arts practice and Creative Spark, who, with support from the Arts Council of Ireland have developed a brilliant facility.

My experimental pinhole camera made using an Ikea storage box that is the perfect size for an 8x10” sheet of photographic paper. Using an online calculator I can figure out a baseline exposure time on a sunny day and work from that. The image created and developed will be a negative. So will need further processing to turn into a positive image so watch this space as I share the process on my blog.
